| Web Site : Added features |
| on 20.08.06 (325 reads) |
After my vacations I decided to extend the features of the site. So I added a new counter, that counts the unique visitors (not the visits of the admin) and displays some other interesting statistics about the time of the visits, the browsers, the OS, etc. i actually wanted to add just a small counter, but since i found the whole "package", I didn't hesitate to install it.
Another added plug is the Google maps module. It is easy to understand what this plug does and it can be used in many ways. Hope I'll find the time to take advantage of it.
The main structure of the site is completed and now I think I can start organising and adding some content. |

| University of Athens : Closing time... |
| on 27.07.06 (219 reads) |
Yesterday I was still complaining about the delays and the general malfunction of the University of Athens. Today, during the afternoon, I felt that this chapter is finally over. The last courseĒs grades were officially published and so I can fly free to wherever I want to. Destination Edinburgh, in order to experience the living and studying there, I will attend a very interesting LLM program, titled “Innovation, Technology & the Law”. But this can wait till September. Now I am ready for Kos island, ready to have some fun for about one week and a half. The final act of my studies in the University of Athens will take place in September, at the closing ceremony. So, "closing time, every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end..." A really beautiful song... Closing Time by Semisonic
Closing time - time for you to go out, go out into the world. Closing time - turn the lights up over every boy and every girl. Closing time - one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer. Closing time - you don't have to go home but you can't stay here. I know who I want to take me home. I know who I want to take me home. I know who I want to take me home. Take me home...
Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from. Closing time - this room won't be open 'til your brothers or you sisters come. So gather up your jackets, and move it to the exits - I hope you have found a friend.
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.
Yeah, I know who I want to take me home. I know who I want to take me home. I know who I want to take me home. Take me home...
Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from...
I know who I want to take me home. I know who I want to take me home. I know who I want to take me home. Take me home...
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end... |

| University of Athens : The art of tolerance |
| on 27.07.06 (206 reads) |
Almost fourteen days have passed since the examination of the last course in the School of Law and we are still waiting for the results. This doesn't seem to be so bad, since we have waited even a month or more the past academic years, but when you want to get the transcripts of your notes and get the h*** out of here, this situation can be described at least as "nerves-breaking". Our -in this case also mine- tolerance is required again in order to put up with this delay. It is really funny, but the most powerful weapon we have, is our tolerance and our prayers that the last results will be registered officially as soon as possible.
So, if anyone hears me, please, help me out of here... |

| Web Site : Starting over & future plans |
| on 26.07.06 (231 reads) |
At this very moment I count on finishing the internal part of the website, I mean the design and the installation of the appropriate software. Definitely this site will be useful for my studies and generally it is nice keeping a site and writing down a couple of thoughts.
I haven't decided yet the exact structure of the site, but the news section is clearly taking the place of a simple blog, informing about the website, the uni, or just everything that passes through my mind.
The "Sections" will include the main content of the site, publications and other stuff, well organized in sections and subsections. Maybe I will have to use a wiki plug-in for more dynamic content, such as an undergoing project, but for the present I don't need it. The external links category reminds me a "professional contact wallet" but still, I think itĒs better than dropping the links with the good old style we meet in every page.
So, we have a large "Sections" category (the main category of the site), which is going to be slowly developed and a "News" category for the rest - on a more frequent basis.
The design is pretty simple and fast-loading, some html table tags and some basic css, light and neat. I don't like heavy graphics and sites that take about a year to load...
That's all for the moment, this news' category called "Web Site" will be the site's news-blog and I will probably add a sub-category with more technical details about building this page and about the software used.
For the present, I must start preparing for my vacations...

| University of Athens : Under... Occupation! |
| on 24.07.06 (214 reads) |
June-July 2006: About 420 faculties of all greek universities are under... occupation by rebellions! I am referring to students of course, who decided to postpone the academic procedure for ever, in order to achieve their goal, the denial to the new legislation about the greek universities. I can understand their anger and confusion, it is not easy to be told to be a normal student by the law itself, instead of being part of political parties and political organizations and instead of causing trouble to the academic procedure with no cost at all. But what pisses me off, is that I am still waiting to leave this messy university, still having trouble because of the stupidity of this pathetic minority... |

| Web Site : Rebuilding the site |
| on 24.07.06 (209 reads) |
Well, after a short period of inactivity, here I am rebuilding the site for the seventh time. Having registered a domain name and using a better hosting plan, I feel this is going to be a really good try, in order to keep the design and structure of the site as a final one. The intentions here are not clear yet, but apart from the classical news and articles, I plan to develop a rich section-managed content, with different orientation from the usual news publishing and commenting system. The idea of a blog was rejected again, I don't know why, but everyone has one, I prefer a messy personal web site than thousands of messages thrown in a "web bucket". That's all for now!Cheers! |
